Encouraging movement

  • Our passion for movement and helping others move well keeps us driven to be great daily. Sept 22 marks the first day of fall in the northern hemisphere and spring in the southern hemisphere. Regardless of where you are, the fall and spring seasons are a great time to set goals, get out there, and try to move more and help others move more.

We have access to some of the prettiest trails in the United States, and Outside recently published an article featuring America's most beautiful rated hikes. If you prefer urban walking over hiking, your preference might stem from your lower extremity biomechanics. If your foot, ankle, knee, hip, and back joints are stacked in favor of being more efficient on flat surfaces, you may not like the uneven surfaces of trails. And if you are stacked to be more efficient on uneven surfaces, all that repetitive movement on the human-altered ground, like sidewalks, will over-use your tissue faster than on a hiking trail.

Either way, foot equipment such as orthotics and shoes can help adapt our bodies to any of these surfaces and allow us to move more, move faster, and move with more intention and fun!

Get out there and try to move more. Challenge yourself and challenge others to move more. Your empathy, resilience, and purpose are remarkable traits that make us all human.
